At The Carbone Clinic, our mission is to provide evidence-based behavior analytic services to learners with autism and other developmental disabilities. We accomplish this by ensuring that the learner’s progress occurs through the arrangement of teaching environments which are positive and designed to allow the learner to continue to develop language and other important skills in the clinic and typical community and family settings.
The purpose of this service is to assess learner needs and then develop learner skills through the provision of direct instruction in a one-on-one teaching environment several hours per week utilizing the methods of applied behavior analysis. The instruction is delivered by well-trained instructors in a well-equipped environment. The instructions are supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Dr.Carbone. Effective data recording methods are utilized and instructional decisions are guided by student performance data.
The purpose of this service is to provide the family and teaching staff with an assessment of the learner's strengths and areas of need based upon direct observation and interaction with the learner. This assessment is conducted in the Carbone Clinic by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA). A full range of skill domains, e.g., verbal behavior, self-care, socialization, etc, are assessed including those identified in the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment & Placement Program (VB-MAPP, Sundberg, 2008) and Essential For Living Assessment & Curriculum guide (McGreevy et al. 2012). Problem behavior that includes self-injury or behavior that interferes with learning will receive priority attention during the assessment. The assessment will also include a determination of the teaching methods which appear to facilitate the learner's acquisition of important skills. Through hands-on coaching, the learner's instructors are trained to implement the most effective teaching procedures.
Our Outreach program provides consultation to clinics/agencies, school and home programs, and to learners within our clinic setting. Training is provided to parents, therapists and school staff in the application of behavior analytic principles and procedures to teaching children, adolescents, and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. All outreach consultants are Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs),with Masters' degrees, and with extensive training within the Carbone Clinic with Dr. Carbone.
